From an early age, many women learn to suppress emotion, maintain composure, and carry pain in silence. Over time, vulnerability can begin to feel like something to overcome rather than something to honor. Yet it is often through our deepest moments of grief, joy, love, motherhood, longing, and transformation that we become who we are.

She Who Sheds is a reflection on the beauty of remaining soft despite life's inevitable hardships. It suggests that our capacity to feel deeply is not evidence of fragility, but of extraordinary resilience. The gilded tears transform an expression so often associated with weakness into something worthy of reverence, reminding us that our most tender experiences are not flaws to conceal, but the places where our humanity shines most brightly.

How It Was Made

Built one layer at a time through coil construction, this piece reflects the quiet rhythm of growth. Like motherhood and identity, it emerged gradually, shaped through patience rather than urgency. Each layer rests upon the last, reminding us that the strongest foundations are often built slowly.

Wherever two coils meet, a point of vulnerability is created. It is here that the sculpture is most likely to separate, crack, or fail. In my previous work, I did everything I could to prevent these moments. In this collection, I chose to welcome them. The cracks are no longer imperfections to conceal, but reminders that our greatest beauty often emerges where we have been tested.

I intentionally highlight places that have carried pain, once seen as flaws, with 22-karat gold. Rather than concealing them, I draw the eye toward them, honoring these marks as evidence of resilience. The gold becomes a reminder that true beauty is not found in perfection, but in the courage to endure, heal, and continue.
