She Who Remains reflects the deeply personal journey of learning to see ourselves with compassion after motherhood and physical transformation. It speaks to the complicated relationship many women have with their bodies, carrying the visible and invisible reminders of birth, sacrifice, endurance, and change. The marks left behind are often the very places our eyes are first drawn, making it difficult to see the whole woman who remains.

This sculpture was born from an act of seeing differently. What once felt like flaws too significant to look beyond gradually revealed themselves as something else entirely. With time and perspective, they no longer defined the body. Instead, they became quiet evidence of resilience, tenderness, unwavering love, and a life that had been profoundly lived.

Accents of 22-karat gold honor these places with reverence rather than concealment. They invite us to shift our gaze away from criticism and toward gratitude, reminding us that the body is not diminished by what it endures, but transformed by it. The work asks us to reconsider where beauty truly resides, suggesting that our deepest worth has never depended on perfection, but on the courage to live, love, and carry others through life.

How It Was Made

I chose this method of coil construction because it refuses to be hurried. Every layer asks for patience before the next can begin, becoming a gentle reminder that growth, healing, and identity are built much the same way. What emerges is not simply a sculpture, but the record of time itself.

Each time two coils come together, they create a place of uncertainty. The sculpture may hold, or it may crack apart. I used to see those moments as something to avoid. This collection taught me to see them differently. The fractures became part of the story, reminding me that what has been broken is often where the deepest beauty is found.

Throughout this collection, 22-karat gold marks the places that have endured the most. Rather than hiding them, I choose to celebrate them, believing that true beauty is not born from perfection, but from a life fully lived. The gold transforms wounds into witnesses, reminding us that the places that have shaped us are often the very places that make us radiant.

I spent fourteen years as a costume designer in Hollywood before building a quieter life as a ceramicist in the Pacific Northwest. After becoming a mother, I began sculpting the female form, honoring its flaws and the places that have held pain. Now I create commissioned pieces to honor a woman’s season of becoming.
